News from the Dance Mapping Study

October 7, 2013 - Canada Council for the Arts released the the interactive dance map and will soon kick-off a nation-wide survey.

As you may know that the Canada Council and the Ontario Arts Council are leading a multi-year research project called the Canada Dance Mapping Study. The aim of this major research project is to get a clearer picture of Canada’s full dance ecosystem and its social and economic impacts. One major outcome of this project recently came out: the interactive dance map! You can explore the map to discover more than 900 dance organizations, schools and companies in genres that include Asian, African, Aboriginal, European, Latin, classical, folk, contemporary, urban and more.

In November, Canada Council will be kicking off a first-ever nation-wide online survey of dancers. The survey, called ‘Yes I Dance’, will be administered by EKOS Research Associates. Dancers of any kind who dance with some regularity and dancemakers – choreographers and dance teachers – will be invited to take the survey, whose results will help populate the interactive map.
